One of Kelderman's original creations, the Kelderman 2-Stage Rear Air Suspension for the 1st Generation (1989-1993) Dodge heavy-duty trucks, is still offered after 30+ years of production. The reason why is simple: it works! We even offer this original design on newer and larger model trucks! These 1989-1993 Ram trucks are some of the most desirable trucks around due to their simplicity and the legendary Cummins motor. If you're in the process of fixing up your old truck it's a great time to address the suspension. One of the suspension issues facing these 1st Generation trucks is stiff ride quality. With the installation of the Kelderman 2-Stage Rear Air Suspension, your leaf springs are retained, but they are provided additional travel by the installation of our air ride framework. This combination of leaf spring and air ride suspension results in a dramatic improvement in ride quality without a reduction in towing or payload capacity. Our 2-Stage Rear Air Suspension is a unique design that removes the rear leaf spring hanger/mount and attaches it to a 'floating' air suspension framework. This allows you to retain the leaf spring suspension for towing but allows you to ride on air suspension instead of those rigid leaf springs.
Our air suspension 'floats' the stock suspension to provide 3-4" of additional suspension travel for your truck. Our air suspension framework needs to share the same space as your existing receiver hitch, so it does need to be eliminated. Don't worry...we build you a strong Class V receiver hitch to put in as a replacement to allow for the air suspension framework to bolt right up. You will still be able to use your truck as a truck, but without bouncing around inside the cab. While driving down the road, our air suspension acts as the first line of defense. The airbags absorb the harshness of the road before transferring them onto the leaf spring suspension. This is typically responsible for a 40-50% improvement in ride quality and THAT is why we have been building it for over 30 years.
